Price book item

What it's for

A price book item record is one catalogue entry in full: what it costs, what it sells for, what it is made of, which tiers get a different price, and how often it has actually been used. It is where a pricing decision gets its evidence.

Reach it by opening any row on Materials & Purchasing → Price Book. The route is /price-book/<item>.

Tabs

The record has no tabs. Components and tier overrides are the body; pricing, inventory, and usage are side panels.

Panels and controls

Fact strip

Price, Cost, Gross margin, Used · 90d, and Updated. Margin and 90-day usage side by side is the pair that matters: a thin margin on something you sell weekly is a bigger problem than a thin margin on something you sold once.

Components

An item can be built from other items — Component, Kind, Qty, Unit price, and Line total. This is how a bundle prices itself from its parts rather than from a number someone remembered to update.

Tier overrides

Tier, Applies to, Price, and Margin. Save tier price sets a different price for one customer tier, and an override can be cleared to fall back to the standard price.

Side panels

  • PricingCost, Gross margin, Kind, and Default qty.
  • InventoryTracked as, In stock, and Unit cost, where the item is a stocked part.
  • 90-day revenue — what this item has actually brought in.
  • Record mixWork orders and Proposals: where it is being used.

Add to work order

Add to work order puts this item straight onto an open job — search "open work orders by customer or job…", set a Qty, and it is added. Handy when a customer calls about a part while you are already looking at it.

How to configure it

  • Price book settings decide which tiers exist and the default margin.
  • Inventory settings decide what this item is tracked as and what its actual unit cost is.
  • Job costing settings decide how the item's cost lands on a job.

Who can see it

This screen sits behind the Price book area.

Owners and office managers can open it. Dispatchers and technicians cannot. The gate is checked on the server, not just hidden in the sidebar, so a direct link does not get around it.
