New subcontractor

What it's for

New subcontractor is where you add a labor or trade partner to your book — the party you send a work order out to when you're sending a subcontractor instead of your own van. It's a full page, not a popup, so there's room for the certificate of insurance up front if you have it in hand.

Reach it from New subcontractor on the Subcontractors list, at /subcontractors/new.

Tabs

The page has no tabs. It is one form, with a labeled certificate-of-insurance section inside it.

Panels and controls

  • Name, Trade (used for dispatch-side filtering — leave it blank for general/unclassified), Contact name, Email, and Phone cover who the party is and how to reach them.
  • The Certificate of insurance section is explicitly optional at creation: Carrier, GL policy #, Effective and Expires dates, Each occurrence limit, General aggregate limit, and three checkboxes — Additional insured, Loss payee, Waiver of subrogation. You can leave all of it blank and fill it in later from the party's own record.
  • Notes is a free-text field for anything else worth keeping on file.
  • Create subcontractor saves the party and takes you to their new record.

How to configure it

  • Job costing settings decide how this party's cost, once they're assigned work, lands against a job's margin.
  • Compliance settings decide which COI fields a subcontractor is expected to keep current — filling them in here is what avoids an "attention needed" flag later on their record.

Who can see it

This screen sits behind the Subcontractors area.

Owners and office managers can add a subcontractor. Dispatchers and technicians cannot — a technician never adds a trade partner directly, only works the jobs assigned through one. The gate is checked on the server, not just hidden in the sidebar, so a direct link does not get around it.
