What it's for
New proposal starts a quote. It handles two shapes: a normal proposal against a customer's own equipment, and a New rental quote against a unit from your fleet.
Reach it from New on the Proposals list, from a piece of equipment, or
from the fleet. The route is /proposals/new. It opens on "Step 1 of 2 — find
the customer".
Tabs
No tabs — two steps. Find the customer, then say what you are quoting.
Panels and controls
Step 1 — the customer
Search looks up accounts by name — "Search customers by name…". Everything that follows is scoped to whoever you pick.
Step 2 — what you are quoting
For a normal proposal, pick the equipment on the customer's record that the quote is about. Add unit registers one if the unit you are replacing was never on file — which is common, because the reason you are quoting is often the reason you are there for the first time.
For a rental quote:
- Fleet unit — which of your own units is going out. Open fleet goes to the fleet list if you need to look first.
- Deploy site — where it is going. Add site creates one on the account if none exists.
- Term start and Term end — the rental period. The rate is previewed from your rate tables as you set the term, so the number in front of you is the number that will be quoted.
Create proposal makes the draft and takes you to it.
Empty states
No available fleet units means every unit is already out. No deploy sites and No equipment on record both mean the account needs the record created first, which you can do inline rather than leaving the form.
What it accepts

How to configure it
- Proposals settings decide the defaults the new draft is created with.
- Rentals settings and the rate tables decide what a rental term is priced at.
- Price book tiers decide what the customer's equipment work is quoted at.
Who can see it
This screen sits behind the Proposals area.
Owners, office managers and dispatchers can open it. Technicians cannot create proposals directly; a recommendation they raise in the field becomes one here. The gate is checked on the server, not just hidden in the sidebar, so a direct link does not get around it.
