Projects
What it's for
Projects is for work too big to be one visit — a retrofit, an install, a phased upgrade. A project groups its work orders into phases, carries a contract value, and bills against milestones rather than per job.
Reach it from Customers → Projects in the sidebar, at /projects. The
list describes itself as "Multi-visit jobs with billing milestones."
Tabs
The list has no tabs. Opening a project gives you its phases, milestones, and costing.
Panels and controls
- Columns: Project, Customer, Status, Milestones, and Contract value — enough to see which projects are live, how far through they are, and what they are worth.
- Browse quotes goes to accepted proposals, which is where most projects start: a quote the customer signed becomes the project it pays for.
- No projects yet is the empty state.
Phase gating
A phase can be set to wait on another. Booking work into a phase whose predecessor is unfinished is refused — "This phase is gated behind <phase>, which isn't complete yet." — unless someone records a reason for going ahead. That is what stops a rough-in being invoiced before the demolition it depends on is signed off.
What it accepts
The list writes nothing itself. Projects, phases and milestones are created and edited on the project record.
How to configure it
- Job costing settings decide how labor, materials, purchase orders, field purchases, subcontractor cost and commission roll into a project's cost.
- Invoicing settings decide what a milestone invoice looks like and whether it needs approval before it is sent.
- Proposals settings decide how an accepted quote converts into a project.
Who can see it
This screen sits behind the Projects area.
Owners, office managers and dispatchers can open it. Technicians cannot — they see the individual work orders a project produces, in the field app. The gate is checked on the server, not just hidden in the sidebar, so a direct link does not get around it.
