Notifications
Open Settings → Notifications in Thermal →
What it's for
Notifications is where you decide what Thermal sends automatically to customers and technicians — appointment reminders, "on the way" texts, job assignments, and invoice emails. It sits downstream of Integrations: the channel (text messaging or email) has to be connected there before any event here can actually go out.
Reach it from Settings → Notifications in the sidebar, at
/settings/notifications.
Tabs
This screen has no tabs. It's one section: a master switch and a list of per-event toggles.
Panels and controls
Enable customer notifications
The master switch. When it's off, nothing goes out to customers no matter what the individual toggles below are set to. Always editable, regardless of whether any channel is connected.
Per-event toggles
Each row is one notification type, with a short description and a toggle:
- Appointment reminders — text the customer before a scheduled visit. Needs Text messaging connected.
- "On the way" alerts — text the customer when a tech is en route. Needs Text messaging connected.
- Job assigned (tech) — notify a technician when they're assigned a job. Needs Text messaging connected.
- Invoice sent — email the customer a copy when an invoice goes out. Needs Email & receipts connected.
- Invoice reminders — re-notify the customer about a sent invoice with a balance still due. Needs Email & receipts connected.
Each toggle is disabled until its channel is connected — the row shows "Connect Text messaging first." or "Connect Email & receipts first." instead of letting you turn it on. A link at the top of the page points to Integrations to make that connection.
Save changes submits the master switch and every event toggle together.
What it accepts
| Field | Format | Required | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enable customer notifications | On or off | No | Defaults to off |
| Appointment reminders | On or off | No | Disabled until Text messaging is connected |
| "On the way" alerts | On or off | No | Disabled until Text messaging is connected |
| Job assigned (tech) | On or off | No | Disabled until Text messaging is connected |
| Invoice sent | On or off | No | Disabled until Email & receipts is connected |
| Invoice reminders | On or off | No | Disabled until Email & receipts is connected |
There's no per-field validation beyond the connection gate — a disabled toggle simply can't be submitted as "on" from this form.
How to configure it
- Integrations is where you connect the SMS and email channels this screen depends on — nothing here can turn on until that's done.
- Turning off Enable customer notifications is the fastest way to silence every customer-facing message at once without touching the individual toggles, which stay exactly as you left them for next time.
- Job assigned (tech) is the one event on this page aimed at your own staff rather than a customer — it still needs Text messaging connected the same as the customer-facing texts.
Who can see it
- Owners and office managers can open Settings → Notifications and change every toggle on it.
- Dispatchers and technicians cannot reach Settings at all. The gate is checked on the server, not just hidden in the sidebar.
