Capital plan record
What it's for
A capital plan record is one customer's multi-year forecast: the units that will need work, what each will cost, when, and why. It is built to be sent — the customer opens it, reads the reasoning, and takes it to whoever signs off their budget.
Reach it by opening any row on Service & Assets → Capital Planning. The
route is /capital-planning/<plan>.
Tabs
The record has no tabs. Line items are the body; the summary and the sharing controls are side panels.
Panels and controls
Fact strip
Customer, Site, Horizon, Generated, and Total — who it is for, how far out it looks, when it was built, and what it comes to.
Line items
Each line carries a Kind, the Equipment it applies to, an Amount, and a Rationale. The rationale is the load-bearing column: a number with a reason attached is a budget request, and a number without one is a guess. Both the amount and the rationale can be edited, so a forecast can be adjusted to what you know about the site before it goes out.
Side panels
- Plan summary — Line items, Contingency, and Total forecast. Contingency is added on top of the line items, so the total is what the customer should actually budget rather than the best case.
- Share & export — Send plan delivers it to the customer, Share again re-sends, Open shows what they will see, and Download CSV gives you the same numbers for a spreadsheet.
Archive takes a plan out of the working list without deleting it, which matters because last year's plan is the evidence for this year's.
No line items is the empty state, and on a freshly generated plan it means the customer's install base carried nothing forecastable — usually thin equipment records rather than equipment in perfect health.
What it accepts
| Field | Format | Required | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amount | Dollars | Yes, per line item | What the line contributes to the total |
| Rationale | Free text | No | Why this line is in the plan; it is what the customer reads |
How to configure it
- This screen belongs to the Capital Planning module — see Settings → Capabilities.
- Capital planning settings decide the default horizon and the contingency percentage applied to the summary.
- Customer portal and Branding settings decide what a shared plan looks like to the customer.
Who can see it
This screen sits behind the Customers area, and additionally behind the Capital Planning module.
Owners, office managers and dispatchers can open it where the module is on. Technicians cannot. A customer sent the plan sees the shared version, not this record. The gate is checked on the server, not just hidden in the sidebar, so a direct link does not get around it.
