Add equipment

What it's for

Add equipment registers a unit onto a customer's service site. Equipment is the spine of the product — jobs, agreements, inspections, and forecasts all hang off a unit — so this form is where a site's install base gets built.

Reach it from Register unit on the Equipment list (which sends you to the customer picker first), or from a customer's Equipment tab. The route is /customers/<customer>/equipment/new.

Tabs

The form has no tabs. It is one page: identity, then nameplate detail, then warranty and meter.

Panels and controls

Nameplate photo

Take a photo of the unit's data plate and the form reads what it can off it, filling in make, model, serial, and the rest for you to check. It is a shortcut, not a substitute — every field it fills stays editable, and if the photo will not read the form says so and lets you type instead:

  • "Please choose a photo of the unit's nameplate."
  • "That image is too large — please use one under 12MB."
  • "Couldn't read that nameplate. Try a clearer, well-lit photo — or enter the details by hand."

Identity and location

Equipment type, Service site, Branch, and Zone. Zone is the sub-location within a site — which roof, which mechanical room — and it is what stops a technician hunting for RTU-7 across a campus.

Nameplate detail

Make ("e.g. Carrier"), Model, Serial number, Install year ("e.g. 2019"), Refrigerant, Tonnage ("e.g. 3"), and EPA appliance class.

Warranty

Warranty status, Warranty start date, Warranty expiry date, and Warranty terms. These dates drive the warranty column on the Equipment list, the warranty view filter, and part of the unit's risk score, so a unit with them filled in is a unit the product can reason about.

Meter

Meter unit and PM threshold ("e.g. 2000") turn on usage-based maintenance for this unit: once the meter passes the threshold, the unit reads as due. Leave them empty and the unit is scheduled by time alone.

Notes is free text for location, access, and condition.

No service site yet is the empty state — a unit needs somewhere to live, so add the site first.

How to configure it

  • Equipment types come from the trades your shop has enabled.
  • Compliance settings decide whether EPA appliance class and refrigerant detail are required.
  • Branches and zones on the site decide what those pickers offer.

Who can see it

This screen sits behind the Customers area.

Owners, office managers and dispatchers can open it. Technicians register equipment from the field app instead, on the job where they found it. The gate is checked on the server, not just hidden in the sidebar, so a direct link does not get around it.
