Field app

Open Tech in Thermal →

What it's for

The field app is what a technician works from on their phone or tablet. It opens on their own jobs — nothing else — and it is built for the conditions the work actually happens in: one hand, bright sun, and a basement with no signal.

Reach it at /tech. A technician signing in lands here; the office app is a separate surface they do not use.

Tabs

The app has no tabs at this level. It is the technician's active work, with the rest of the app reached from a job or the bottom navigation.

Panels and controls

  • Active jobs — the work assigned to this technician, ready to open. Opening one goes to the job, where the whole visit happens.
  • No active jobs is the empty state, and it means exactly what it says: no work is assigned right now. Available work that has not been assigned to anyone is on Available work.
  • Login not linked appears when a sign-in has not been connected to a staff record yet. It is not a permissions problem and not a bug — the office needs to add the person as staff, which links the two.

Working offline

The field app is built to keep working when the signal does not. Work captured without a connection is held on the device and sent when one returns; Sync shows what is still waiting.

What it accepts

The home screen itself takes no input. Everything is captured on the job.

How to configure it

  • Staff records decide who is a technician and which branch they belong to.
  • Dispatch decides what is assigned to them.
  • Branch scope on the staff record decides which work a technician can see and claim.

Who can see it

This screen is part of the field app. Technicians see it on their own phone or tablet, scoped to the jobs assigned to them.

Office roles work from the office app instead; they do not use this screen.
