What it's for
Route is the technician's stops for today and the order to drive them in. Travel is the largest chunk of unbillable time in most shops, so shaving a leg off a route is worth more than working faster on site.
Reach it from the field app navigation, at /tech/route.
Tabs
The screen has no tabs. It is the day's stops and the map.
Panels and controls
- Stops today — the assigned jobs, in the order they are currently planned.
- The map shows them geographically, which is how an obviously wrong order becomes obvious.
- Optimize reorders the stops to cut driving. It needs at least two stops with known locations to do anything, and says so rather than pretending: "Nothing to optimize — you need at least two stops today." and "Not enough geocoded stops today to optimize a route."
When the map is empty
The empty states are precise, because the causes are different and the fixes are different:
- No stops today — nothing assigned.
- No geocoded stops yet — jobs are assigned but their site addresses have not been located on the map. The fix is on the site records, not here.
- Map not configured yet — mapping has not been set up for your shop.
- Couldn't load the map — a temporary failure; the stop list still works.
A stop list without a map is still useful. The screen degrades to the list rather than showing nothing.
What it accepts
The screen takes no fields. Optimizing is a single action over the day's stops.
How to configure it
- Site addresses on customer records are what get located on the map. A site with an incomplete address cannot be routed to.
- Mapping has to be configured for your shop before the map renders — see Settings → Integrations.
- Dispatch decides which stops are on the day in the first place.
Who can see it
This screen is part of the field app. Technicians see it on their own phone or tablet, scoped to the jobs assigned to them.
Office roles work from Dispatch instead; they do not use this screen.
