Build
What it's for
Build is the doing stage of a job in the field app — the work itself, after the hazard check and the diagnosis, before wrapping up. It is where labour and materials actually consumed get recorded as they happen rather than reconstructed at the end of the day.
Reach it as a stage of a job in the field app. The route is
/tech/<job>/build.
Tabs
The stage has no tabs. It is one working screen.
Panels and controls
- The work for this job, with what was agreed in the diagnosis available to work against.
- Parts consumed come off the technician's van stock, which is what keeps van stock true without a separate stocktake.
- Labour recorded here is what the job is costed and, where billable, billed from.
- Photos and notes captured during the work stay with the job.
Recording as you go is the point of this stage. Materials remembered at the end of the week are materials the job never gets charged for, and a job that undercharges is invisible until the margin report says so months later.
What it accepts
| Field | Format | Required | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parts consumed | Pick from van stock or the price book | No | Consuming from the van adjusts van stock |
| Labour | Hours and type | No | Feeds job cost and billable time |
| Photos | Images | No | Kept with the job |
| Notes | Free text | No |
How to configure it
- Inventory settings decide how van stock is tracked and valued.
- Price book settings supply the catalogue and the pricing.
- Billable time settings decide which labour types bill the customer.
- Job costing settings decide how consumed material and labour land against the job's margin.
Who can see it
This screen is part of the field app. Technicians see it on their own phone or tablet, scoped to the jobs assigned to them.
Office roles see the result on the work order record's Line items and Job costing panels.
