Inspect (field app)

What it's for

Inspect runs a checklist against the equipment on the job. It is how a maintenance visit produces evidence rather than a note that says "serviced" — each item marked, each reading recorded, each deficiency raised.

Reach it as a stage of a job in the field app. The route is /tech/<job>/inspect.

Tabs

The stage has no tabs. It is the checklist, worked top to bottom.

Panels and controls

  • The checklist comes from the template chosen for this equipment type. Each item is marked pass, flag, or fail, and items that ask for a reading take a value.
  • Deficiencies are raised from failed items, each with a severity and a suggested price — which is what turns an inspection into a proposal rather than a list of complaints.
  • Photos attach to items, and a photo of a failed item is worth more than the sentence describing it.
  • No equipment linked appears when the job has no unit attached. An inspection is a record about a specific unit, so link the equipment first — the Equipment stage does it in a minute.

The checklist is snapshotted when the inspection starts, so a template edited back at the office afterwards does not change what this inspection asked.

How to configure it

  • Inspection templates decide what is asked, which readings are required, and which equipment types each template applies to.
  • Compliance settings decide which readings count toward a compliance obligation.
  • Customer portal settings decide whether the finished report can be shared as a link.

Who can see it

This screen is part of the field app. Technicians see it on their own phone or tablet, scoped to the jobs assigned to them.

Office roles read the result on the inspection record.
